Tea Accessories
What do you need to make a good cup of tea? That can depend. It varies depending on how many people are being served, the type of tea being used (loose tea, tea bags…), the blend of tea being served, etc. There are some blends of tea that can be adversely impacted by steeping them too long, conversely, brewing for too short a time will yield a tea that is lacking in body and flavor. Therefore, an accurate timer is a very important piece of equipment. Of course, a clock can serve the purpose just as well, but if the drinker gets distracted, the alarm will be a handy reminder to take a break. Tea timers can be digital or analog. Some are fun designs and others are purely functional, choose what works best or suits you.
If someone wants to use loose tea to prepare a cup of tea, a tea infuser is very helpful. They come in a range of designs and sizes. One of my favorite ones is a mesh ball that also functions as a tea scoop to measure a serving of tea. It is on the end of tongs, so by squeezing and opening the tongs, and picking up tea, I can be assured to get the right amount. Then I can just place it in my hot water and allow it to steep without transferring anything and risking making a mess. Another useful accessory to have is a tea bag caddy. Granted, I do not use it for tea bags that often but it is a handy place to put my tea tongs after my tea has steeped. Sure, I could get up and go put my tongs in the sink, but if I am sitting down, relaxing, enjoying a cup of tea, the last thing I want to do is get up or worry about getting tea drips all over. Loose tea should be stored in an air-tight container to preserve flavor and freshness. If it is properly stored tea can maintain its flavor for several months. Most tea however does not come in an airtight package, or if it does, the package is not very attractive. There are many tea storage containers available that are simply beautiful and very functional. If the tea is out and visible, it is more likely to be used and enjoyed than if it is put away.
